5 Ways I Scaled My Income As a Media Buyer

I've been in the DTC marketing space for almost 5 years.

Here are 5 ways I used to grow as a Media Buyer:

#1: Choose the right people you work with

  • Strategically choose people you work for.
  • Look for people that have high level connections.
  • Work with people who have a lifestyle you want to have.

This will give you an early head start and a shortcut in the future.

But make sure you over-deliver for these kinds of people.

#2: Create a continuous feedback & improvement loop

‍

  • Find an accountability buddy who is on the same journey.
  • Join a community or assemble a tribe.
  • Document your journey to reflect.

Find one person on the same path and compete.

This alone will push you to your edge.

#3: Stack connections by becoming a yes-sayer

‍

  • Avoid saying no to any types of offers.
  • Do activities that don't bring direct ROI at the moment.
  • If you avoid saying no and give value for free, you'll start engineering luck.

Easy, right?

#4: Always overdeliver & establish authority

‍

  • Do more than it's expected from you.
  • Commit to posting every day and providing free value on Linkedin.
  • Establish authority in a narrow field, e.g. Media Buyer who specializes in digital products.

Do these 3 things, and you'll be wildly successful.

Not instantly though, it has a compounding effect.

#5: Become the best entry level specialist first

When I first joined an agency I set up introduction meetings with all people who worked there.

I had a conversation with one Media Buyer which changed my life.

I was asking him what is the fastest way to become a Senior media buyer.

He said: "Focus on becoming the best Junior media buyer first."

Here is the lesson for you: master fundamentals before scaling.
